Angel Matchup ran a cold email campaign for AFRISTACK SMART SYSTEM LTD, a Nigerian AI and creator-economy company raising up to $2 million. Instead of mailing a broad list, we contacted only African investors who had recently made technology investments. Out of 165 delivered emails, 59 investors opened, 20 clicked, and 3 replied. Two of those replies became active conversations. One recipient unsubscribed and none reported spam.
About the client: AFRISTACK SMART SYSTEM LTD
AFRISTACK is a Nigerian, AI-native technology company founded by Emmanuel Oluwasegun Taiwo (LinkedIn). It was incorporated in 2026 (RC 9646667) and builds digital products and AI infrastructure from Africa. Its ecosystem includes:
- AfriKDP: a digital publishing and distribution platform where authors keep 85% royalties and get paid through mobile money, crypto or bank transfer.
- AfriAssist: an AI-powered creative and business workflow platform on a subscription-plus-credits model.
- Skilluxo: a freelance and professional services marketplace.
- Omnis AI: the company’s proprietary AI development and infrastructure initiative.
At the time of the campaign, AFRISTACK reported 250+ registered users, 200+ published books, 50+ active authors, users in 20+ countries and $10K+ in cumulative platform transaction volume. It was raising up to $2 million to fund AI engineering, compute and infrastructure, product development and commercialisation.
The challenge: reaching the right investors without a warm network
Early-stage founders in Africa face a familiar problem. Warm introductions to investors are the most reliable route to a first meeting, but many founders, especially outside the big startup hubs, do not have those connections. AFRISTACK needed its pitch in front of relevant investors quickly, on a limited budget, and without the noise of a generic mass mailing.
Mass email is usually considered a weak channel for startup fundraising. Investors receive large volumes of unsolicited pitches, and irrelevant ones are ignored or reported as spam. The question for this campaign was whether precision could succeed where volume usually fails.
Our Approach: Quality Over Quantity
- Laser-focused list Instead of blasting thousands of people, we targeted about 169 African investors who had actually backed tech deals recently. Because the fit was real from the start, the pitch actually landed.
- Real founder voice No stiff corporate templates. The email came straight from the founder—introducing who he is, mentioning AfriKDP is already live with a growing creator community, and getting straight to the point: AFRISTACK is raising up to $2M for infrastructure and growth.
- One simple ask We invited them to check out the deck, with deeper docs ready if they were interested. We also asked them to pass it along if they knew anyone into fintech, AI, or emerging markets—giving even a “no” a productive way to help.
- Clean delivery We verified every email beforehand. That gave us a 97.76% delivery rate and zero spam complaints.
- Focus on replies Opens and clicks are nice, but we tracked what actually mattered: real conversations and replies from interested investors.
Campaign results
What the numbers mean

Delivery (97.76%). Only a handful of addresses bounced. Clean, verified data is the foundation of any outreach campaign, and it protects sender reputation for future sends.

Opens (35.76%). More than one in three recipients opened the email. Cold outreach is commonly reported to open in the teens to mid-20s percent, so this is a strong result, though published benchmarks vary widely by source and audience. Opens are also an imperfect metric: Apple Mail Privacy Protection can register automated opens, and 20 of the recorded opens were flagged as such.

Clicks (12.12% CTR, 33.9% CTOR). A third of openers went on to click, which suggests the subject matter was relevant and the call to action was clear. Again, the report includes bot clicks, because some corporate security filters scan links automatically, so the true human click rate may be somewhat lower.

Unsubscribes and spam (0.61% and 0%). One opt-out and no complaints is what relevant targeting usually looks like. Irrelevant pitches tend to produce the opposite.
Replies (3). This is the number that matters most. Opens and clicks show interest; replies show intent. Three of 165 is a small absolute figure, but for a cold approach to investors with no prior relationship it is a meaningful one.
Investor responses
The campaign produced three replies from angel investors:
- One event invitation, opening a route to meet investors in person.
- Two substantive leads that the client is now discussing directly with the investors.
One of the responses came from an investment group focused on African pre-seed ventures. It said AFRISTACK’s vision fit its mandate and recognised the traction across the product ecosystem, then set out what it would need before considering next steps:
- A detailed financial model and monetisation strategy showing how each product contributes to revenue.
- Clarity on the AI infrastructure strategy: proprietary models, compute infrastructure, or primarily platforms.
- Evidence of traction beyond the current user base and transaction volume.
- Profiles of the founding team and its technical capacity.
- A phased, milestone-based raise rather than the full amount upfront.
That is not a cheque, and we do not present it as one. It is something just as useful at this stage: an experienced investor telling a founder exactly what would move the conversation forward. Since the campaign, AFRISTACK’s investor materials have been refined along similar lines, including a bottom-up three-year financial model and a phased use-of-funds and milestone plan.
Client Feedback
Read the client – Emmanuel Oluwasegun Taiwo’s review on Trustpilot.
I recently connected with Angel Matchup while looking for funding opportunities for AFRISTACK SMART SYSTEM LTD.
What stood out to me was the willingness to help an early-stage company get its fundraising campaign in front of a wider investor network. Mahindar was responsive, requested our pitch deck and funding information, and helped get our campaign live without asking us for payment for the campaign setup.
Our campaign has now been launched and we are currently waiting to see the investor responses over the coming days.
I appreciate the support and the opportunity to put AFRISTACK in front of potential investors that we may not have reached independently.
Thank you to Mahindar and the Angel Matchup team for the support so far.

Disclosure: the review was posted when the campaign had just launched, before the results above were in, and it notes that the campaign setup was provided without a setup fee. We include it for transparency about how the engagement began.
Limitations and transparency
We believe case studies are only useful when they are honest about what they do and do not show:
- Small sample. 165 delivered emails is a single campaign. Results will differ by sector, stage, message and market.
- Automated activity. Reported opens include Apple MPP activity, and clicks include bot clicks, so engagement figures are upper bounds.
- No funding closed yet. As of publication, no investment has been confirmed. Two conversations are ongoing, and we will update this page if the outcome changes.
- Benchmarks vary. Industry figures for cold email differ between studies, so treat comparisons as directional.
- Targeting is not a guarantee. Investors decide on the strength of the business, not the quality of the email. Outreach earns a conversation; the company has to earn the investment.
Frequently asked questions
It can, if the list is tightly targeted and the message is relevant. Here, emailing only African investors with recent tech investments produced a 35.76% open rate, 12.12% click-through rate and three replies. One campaign is not proof for every startup, but it shows precision matters more than volume.
Cold outreach commonly lands in the teens to mid-20s percent, although sources differ and privacy features inflate opens. This campaign recorded 35.76%, with 20 opens flagged as Apple MPP.
Three angel investors replied: one invited the founder to an event, and two became active conversations.
Not when it is relevant, honest and easy to opt out of. This campaign drew one unsubscribe and no spam complaints.
